A counting game where children count the numbers on each tile and add them together. This works well as a mental maths starter encouraging ‘maths talk’. Children could work against the clock for added interest and motivation. Another activity idea is for children to find matching tiles of ‘real’ dominoes and place them onto the sheets. This resource is based on Eric Carle’s amazing book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. The resource shows a colour poster for each day of the week and what the caterpillar ate on each day. There is a black and white set of worksheets based on the posters for children to draw the food for each day, write the word and find the initial sound for the day of the week. Children can check that the food and days match the story itself. Ask them to check Saturday in particular. Did the story specify what flavour the ice cream was?
